The Owner

Chris Howell is the owner and head engineer at the studio. He's been a professional musician for over 20 years as a guitarist, producer, and engineer and has worked and toured with numerous artists ranging from rock to country to alternative to you name it.

He started off playing guitar with various bands in the DFW area, writing songs, and performing around the southwest. In the early 2000s he moved into recording and engineering and opened the studio in 2006.

He loves playing guitar, making music with people, the city of Denton, reading, bourbon and coffee.

The Studio

The studio was opened in Dallas in 2006 and then relocated to Denton in 2012, where it received the honor of being a finalist in the Best of Denton County for 2018 and winner in 2019. It consists of nearly 1500 sq ft of space which includes the following: a large tracking room, isolation room, control room, amplifier room/storage and a spacious lounge for relaxing.

A lot of thought and planning was put into the design of the studio which is evident from the moment you walk in. The studio space has been treated extensively with acoustic absorption and diffusion with the result being a lively yet balanced main tracking room, acoustically dead isolation room, and a sonically flat control room for detailed, critical listening. Consequently we are equipped for any type of project, and offer expertise in all phases of recording: preproduction, tracking, mixing and mastering.

In addition, we are often told that the studio is one of the most aesthetically pleasing spaces to work in, evidenced by the fact that many bands reserve the studio simply to shoot music videos or interviews. This is an aspect of studio usage that we highly encourage: filming your experience. Whether it's lo-fi on your phone or a full scale film production, capturing your recording session on video can be a vital way to promote your band as well as stockpile B-roll, live performances and alternative versions of your songs or just additional goodies for your fans.

The fact is, we believe that every aspect of the studio contributes to the entire experience and we want you to get the absolute most out of it, so we have gone to great lengths to make sure it is all about the vibe.

The Lounge

In addition to a spacious recording facility, the studio also features a hip and relaxing lounge that is available to all clients.

Built in the fall of 2017, the lounge is an addition whose purpose is simply to make the sometimes stressful process of recording much more enjoyable and relaxing for all. It's connected to the main tracking room via a short hallway and continues the theme of creativity, simplicity and relaxation.

It features a full sized couch, love seat, kitchenette, dining table and full bath with the following amenities:

  • flat screen TV

  • wireless internet

  • refrigerator

  • microwave

  • coffee maker

  • Keurig

  • tea kettle

  • a 96" couch for killer naps
